Somewhere south of Toledo
a truck, held together by politically liberal bumper stickers,
heads for Michigan
carrying to me this evening’s guest
a man I have never met
never seen
but I’ve heard his soft tenor voice
and he can tell the Cooper’s from the sharp-shinned
the merlin from the kestrel
and by the time he gets here
it will be February.
